Cape Air Brings Direct Flights from New Bedford to Boston

Looking for a way to skip Boston traffic and long TSA lines? Starting September 29, travelers out of New Bedford will have a new option. Cape Air is launching twice-daily, year-round flights from New Bedford Regional Airport to Logan International Airport in Boston.
This is the first time in recent memory that Southeastern Massachusetts residents will have direct access to Logan without the stress of driving or paying steep parking fees in the city.
Less Stress, More Convenience
The new flights make travel easier from the very first mile.
Passengers can:
- Go through TSA in New Bedford instead of Logan
- Connect seamlessly to both domestic and international flights
- Enjoy shorter, more affordable trips that work for business or leisure
Mayor Jon Mitchell called the service “a game-changer,” while Cape Air’s leadership emphasized that the goal is to replace hassle with accessibility.

A Boost for the Local Airport
A Boost for the Local Airport New Bedford Regional Airport already contributes nearly $30 million annually to the city’s economy and supports close to 300 jobs. Since 2022, air traffic has grown nearly 10 percent, and a new tower and terminal are on the horizon.
Parking is another advantage: just $10 per day and located steps from the entrance.
Cape Air’s Bigger Network
Based in Hyannis, Cape Air has been connecting New England since 1989. What started with three daily flights between Provincetown and Boston has grown into a fleet of 98 aircraft serving 34 destinations in the U.S. and Caribbean. The airline now operates more than 300 flights a day and carries around 400,000 passengers annually.
New Bedford’s new connection fits into a broader expansion, with Cape Air also adding routes across the Northeast and Caribbean.
At TIDES, we see this as a milestone for New Bedford. Whether it is a quick hop to Boston, these new routes bring the world a little closer to our corner of the South Coast. For local families and businesses alike, it is not just about saving time, it is about opening new opportunities.
