Padanaram Village Kidz Zone Returns for the 2026 Sidewalk Sale

by Molly Armando | Tides Real Estate

There’s a stretch of Elm Street in Padanaram Village that, for one Saturday every summer, feels like the center of the universe for this little coastal village.

A few things you should know about the Padanaram Summer Sidewalk Sale:

  1. It always takes place on the last Saturday in July.
  2. Roughly 50 vendors line the street selling handmade goods, artwork, jewelry, clothing, food, and all kinds of creative work. There’s really only one rule: the items have to be handmade.

It’s a tradition that has been part of the village for more than 40 years, and for a lot of people, it marks the heart of summer in South Dartmouth.

And tucked right into the middle of all of it is the part I personally look forward to most.

The Kidz Zone is back for the 2026 Sidewalk Sale, and honestly, it might be the most fun corner of the entire event.

What the Kidz Zone Actually Is

For years, kids would just kind of show up. A lemonade stand here. A folding table of friendship bracelets there. Somebody selling cookies their mom helped them bake at six in the morning. It happened organically because Padanaram has always been the kind of village where that sort of thing is welcomed, not waved off.

About four years ago, the idea came up to give it real shape. A dedicated space, just for the kids. Their own corner of the sidewalk sale where they could set up a booth, sell whatever they came up with, and feel like part of the day in a real way. It has grown into one of the most loved parts of the event, and one of the most quietly important.

Kids of all ages are encouraged to sell whatever they want. That has historically included:

  • Baked goods
  • Jewelry
  • Original artwork
  • Clothing and crafts
  • Lemonade
  • Handmade items of every description
  • Whatever they came up with that morning

There is no template. That is the whole point.

Why This Part of the Day Hits Different

Last year, one of my favorite things happened in real time. A little girl bought a small tub of body glitter from another kid's booth, looked around, realized every other kid in sight wanted glitter on their face, and immediately started charging for custom glitter designs. Within minutes she had a line.

That is a business. Built in the middle of a sidewalk sale. By a kid who saw an opening and went for it.

A few booths over, a young artist was selling spray paint canvases he had made himself, explaining each one to anyone who stopped to look. Watching a kid stand behind something they made and sell it with their own voice is, honestly, a little emotional. There are very few moments where you can see confidence build in front of you. This is one of them.

A Quick Note From Me

I've always known I wanted to own a business someday. I didn't always know what that meant or what it would look like, and I think that's okay. Sometimes entrepreneurship starts with a storefront and a logo and a five-year plan. Sometimes it starts with a lemonade stand, a spray paint canvas, or a tub of glitter and a good instinct.

The Kidz Zone gives kids permission to start before they have it all figured out. That's a gift, and I'm grateful Padanaram makes room for it every summer.

Why It Works for the Whole Village

What makes the Kidz Zone special is that it is a real community effort. The kids feel like they are part of something larger than themselves. They build confidence. They talk to neighbors and strangers. They support each other across booths. They get to experience, even if just for a few hours, what it feels like to make something and put it into the world.

That energy spills out into the rest of the sidewalk sale. The Kidz Zone is across from The Sail Loft, so the foot traffic moves naturally between the kids' tables, the boutiques along Elm and Bridge Streets, and the harbor itself. It's a good day in a village that knows how to have one.

How to Reserve a Spot for Your Kid

The Kidz Zone is run with help from the Padanaram Coalition, and reservations are simple.

  • Cost: $25 per spot
  • Payment: Venmo @padanaramcoalition
  • Bring your own table (this part is on you)
  • Reserve your spot: Text Cristina DeSilva at 508-415-6502

Families are not required to stay all day. Many treat it as a fun summer activity. Kids set up, sell for a few hours, run around with friends in the village, and call it a day. Space is limited every year, so reserving early matters.

This Year's Date and Location

The 2026 Kidz Zone is Saturday, July 25, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, set up on the corner of Elm Street and Harbor Street, across from The Sail Loft in Padanaram Village.

If you're new to the village, it's a few blocks back from the harbor, easy to walk to from anywhere in town once you park. Plan to make a morning of it.

The event is also listed on the Dartmouth Weekly community calendar.
