New York Bagel Co Expands in Dartmouth, Taking Over Former Sunrise Bakery Location

Sunrise Bakery in Dartmouth soon will be New York Bagel Co.
If you’ve driven past the former Sunrise Bakery location in Dartmouth recently, you may have wondered what was next.
Now we know.
New York Bagel Co is expanding within Dartmouth and will be taking over the former Sunrise Bakery site. This will become their second Dartmouth location, but it’s also a much bigger move than just adding another storefront.
This location will serve as the company’s main baking facility and commissary hub moving forward.
For longtime locals, Sunrise Bakery was part of the routine. Seeing that building transition into something new feels significant.
Why This Expansion Matters for the Town of Dartmouth
This is big news for this area of South Dartmouth. There are very few places to grab a quick bite if you're on the go. When Sunrise was no longer.... the community felt it. New York Bagel not only has breakfast items, but we expect it will serve as a new place to grab a sandwich for lunch.... something that area lacks.
The new facility will serve as the central baking operation, supporting other locations and expanding distribution capacity. Partner Kyle Lima described it as the “heartbeat” of their bagel and commissary operations. That’s a big commitment to Dartmouth- and we're lucky to have them!
What It Says About Dartmouth, MA
When a business chooses a town for its main production facility, it’s not random. It means the location works. It means the infrastructure works. It means the customer base is strong enough to support expansion. Dartmouth has quietly become a place where businesses feel confident investing and growing. Between Route 195 access, proximity to New Bedford and the rest of the South Coast, and steady residential growth, it makes sense.
This move reinforces that trend.
There’s something about seeing a building change hands that makes you realize how much these places become part of everyday life. Sunrise Bakery had its own following. Now that space is entering a new chapter. And instead of sitting empty, it’s becoming the backbone of a growing local company.
The Bigger Picture for Local Real Estate
Strong local business growth supports residential real estate. When restaurants expand, when production facilities grow, when businesses double down on a town, it signals stability and confidence. It brings jobs, daily activity, and long-term investment. That’s the kind of steady growth that strengthens a community.
We can't wait until we can order an everything bagel with excessive amounts of cream cheese from the drive through!
