Highlights from my interview on the Real Estate Rockstars Podcast
If you work in real estate—or even just follow the industry—you’ve probably heard of the Real Estate Rockstars Podcast. Hosted by top-producing agents and industry leaders, it’s one of the most well-known podcasts in the real estate world, with more than 1,000 episodes and millions of downloads.
Over the years, guests have included some of the most influential voices in the business: names like Barbara Corcoran, Ryan Serhant, Glenn Sanford, and Gary Keller, as well as hundreds of successful agents from across the country who share practical advice and real-life experience. So when I was invited to be on the show with Shelby Johnson, it was a huge honor. I’m still a bit in awe that I had the chance to sit in the same interview seat as so many people I admire.
A little over a year ago, I joined Shelby to talk about my journey—from digital marketer to full-time solo real estate agent on the South Coast of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. What followed was a conversation that really made me reflect on the early days of my business—the wins, the challenges, and the strategies that helped me grow.
Here are a few highlights from that conversation that I hope will be helpful if you’re just getting started, thinking about pivoting careers, or looking to grow in your own real estate journey.
1. Your Background Is Your Advantage
Before I became a real estate agent, I spent 10 years in digital marketing—helping top brands like Neiman Marcus and Kate Spade create online experiences, optimize content, and build personalized marketing strategies. That background became my biggest asset when I transitioned to real estate. I knew how to build systems, speak to different types of clients, and use content strategically to generate leads.
2. Branding and Visibility Matter (A Lot)
When I launched my business full-time in 2022, I didn’t start by cold-calling or door-knocking—I started by setting up my online presence. I claimed every possible profile (Google Business, Zillow, Redfin, Nextdoor), built a consistent brand with clear messaging, and launched my YouTube channel and Instagram under “The South Coast Realtor.”
Branding isn’t just a logo—it’s the feeling people get when they see your content. I chose brand colors, created a slogan (“My goal is to help you reach yours”), and focused on being consistent across platforms. That consistency is what makes people remember you.
3. Start with What You Know—and Build from There
I closed my first deal with a family member and used that as content and momentum. From there, I started seeing leads come in from YouTube, Instagram, my website, and referrals. It wasn’t about going viral—it was about building trust through showing up, being myself, and delivering value.
4. Structure Is Everything
I’m a big believer in time-blocking. Every morning, I dedicate time to updating my CRM, writing two thank-you cards, and checking in with clients. I use HubSpot to keep track of leads, organize them by where they are in their journey, and make sure my follow-ups are timely and intentional.
I also use tools like SendOutCards to automate and personalize outreach—birthday cards, thank-you notes, and even cookie vouchers (yes, really!). These little touches matter more than you think.
5. Show Up as Yourself
It took time to get comfortable being vulnerable and showing my real life on social media, but that’s what people connect with. I share the wins and the hard moments. I cry on camera sometimes. I let people see the person behind the business. And over time, that’s helped build real relationships.
6. You Can’t Scale Alone
For a long time, I did everything myself—from content creation and editing (I still use Wondershare Filmora!) to transaction coordination. But now I’ve hired an assistant, and I’m starting to think about how to grow and scale in a sustainable way. That includes eventually building a small team and mentoring others, which is something I’m really passionate about.
Whether you’re brand new to real estate or just trying to grow your business in a more intentional way, I hope parts of my story resonate with you. I’m not doing anything revolutionary—I’m just staying consistent, being real, and remembering that every relationship matters.
If you want to watch the full interview and hear all the behind-the-scenes stories (including how I turned getting fired into the best decision of my career), you can find the full episode on YouTube, Goodpods, and Apple Podcasts.
And as always—if you’re thinking about moving to the South Coast, or you just want to talk shop—I’d love to hear from you.
